Airports

Hewanorra International Airport

This airport is served mainly by International Airlines such as such as those mentioned above, all of which operate scheduled services. Situated on the main highway also known as the East Coast Road which runs north to south on the East side of the island as suggested, it is served by all taxi companies on the island. The trip to Castries takes about an hour and a half  subject to traffic and road conditions. When leaving the island beyond Immigration and Customs you will find a small selection of duty free shops for locally made goods as well as the usual cigarettes and spirits.  There are also a couple of snack bars.

Car rental

A few car hire companies can be found on site and include Avis and Hertz.

Facilities

The airport has a restaurant near the check in area, a branch of the Bank of St Lucia with an ATM machine on the ground floor next to the arrivals area, and a bureau de change which opens between 12 and 4.30pm.

Departure tax

This is a mandatory tax which is now included in the cost of tickets for most airlines.

George F. L. Charles Airport

This is the smaller of the two airports on the island and is located located in the North in the capital city Castries and as such plays host to a number of airlines linking St. Lucia to the other territories of the Eastern Caribbean.  As such it attracts a greater volume of air traffic than Hewanorra International Airport. Federal Express and DHL operate daily services in support of their courier service, while Amerijet International operate cargo services between Miami and St. Lucia weekly. Single and twin engine pleasure aircraft also frequent this airport.

Facilities

The Airport has a branch of Ritulas coffee shop on site, washrooms, public telephones and a tiny book shop/stand.  There are also car rental booths and a Duty Free shop.  Vigie Beach is just across the road and has a good assortment of local bars with food and drink at very affordable prices.
